Get Perspective

There is a good number of adolescents that have dropped out of school due to the reasons I previously mentioned in my post- a-new-mirror-please. Now that school is abruptly over, what next? Well, you know what they say about an idle mind.

Some have genuine reasons to not continue with schools such as helping their grandparents or ill parents in scouting for more sources of income but the ones we will focus on are those that have made up their minds to put an end to the school adventure.

For some reason, I noticed that girls who are no longer in school almost automatically develop an appetite for marriage. They think they are ready to run their own homes and take care of a family. It probably doesn’t take much right? By this time they have mastered several chores and they can easily budget daily for $2 or less. They have seen mum do it. Those hormones won’t stay put so they meet some random guy, fall in love and whatever happens can be justified by their love. They get pregnant as a teen and are usually forced to move in with the young man responsible. Sadly, some contract sexually transmitted diseases that can form permanent scars.

Boys on the other hand take to substance abuse. That’s what a man does right? A man needs some time in bars or taverns to drown his sorrows or go wild with the ladies. Whatever he can do to clear his head from the nagging at home plus the pending bills. All this unnecessary stress could have been avoided had they just persisted in age-appropriate activities like school. Feelings are simply a sign that one’s body is developing and should not be considered as a qualification for early marriages.

There is so much more to marriage than they anticipated but by the time they realise it, it’s a little too late to turn back. More kids come along the way. They slowly start to lose hope and convince themselves that life is not fair to a certain kind of people. This is how it is so might as well embrace a life that doesn’t offer much. A mindset is created. They continue to see themselves as helpless and sadly, this is a reality for many. It’s passed on to their children in many ways. They accept it as the norm and the formed patterns continue. This is how it all starts but it has to end. Things can change.
